History of Cades Church of Christ

The Cades Church of Christ congregation met on November 2, 1975, for the first time in their new building, with 67 people attending. The members had been meeting at the old Union Central school building, while the new building was under construction.

Several people from the community started attending and by June 1976, 18 had obeyed the gospel.

Brother June and Sister Nancy Powell donated the land for the building and also loaned the congregation the money for the construction, without interest. Mr. Tom Belew and his workers erected the building. The loan was paid in the next few years and the Elders had the foresight to see the need for a place for fellowship. The Fellowship Hall was built behind the porch and later the porch was enclosed for classrooms. The Elders were June Powell, John Seavers and Leonard Ramsey. Deacons were Jack Smith and Kenneth Ramsey.

After the death of John Seavers and Leonard Ramsey the congregation selected Jack Smith and Kenneth Ramsey to serve with June Powell as Elders.

James Arrington was the first minister followed by David French, Harry Owen, David Dial, David Williams and Tim Rogers. The  present minister is Manly Luscombe. Jesse Childress was associate minister for several years. He was followed by Bradley Covert. Daniel Cook, minister at Humboldt, is now preaching on Sunday nights.

Some of the early members were June and Nancy Powell, Leonard and Naomi Ramsey, John and Madge Seavers, Hassell Powell, Katherin Powell, Vern and Ruby Burse, Coy Hathcock family, Kenneth Ramsey family, Jack Smith family, Paul Patterson family, Debra and Sherry Seavers, James Arrington family, Larry Connell family, Debbie Bennett family, David Derryberry family, Brenda Neace family, and Barnett family.
